Appeal To Frank

In December, I lost my notebook that contained all my recipes. It was, in essence, my Simply Frugal cookbook.

Someone named Frank posted a comment on one of the Simply Frugal recipes saying that he thought he had my notebook.

If so, would he please revisit that comment, and get in touch with me?

If any of you have any idea who Frank might be, please help me track down my beloved cookbook. Frank probably lives in Washtenaw County, Michigan.

My question is:My husband and I are vegetarians and I need to work up a really basic list for us, as well as note a few extras when the price is right. I'd like to know how you came up with yours and if you have any suggestions for me. We use a lot of beans and rice. I don't use processed fake meats. I've got my budget down to $50.

My list has been refined over years of shopping.

Here's a suggestion: take mine.
Cross off anything that isn't vegetarian.
Add stuff that you use a lot.

Use the list for a while, and cross off stuff that's there that you didn't actually use that much.

Add stuff that you wish you had in your pantry.

As long as you aren't a vegan, my list should be a good starting point.

For, example, the vegetables and fruits on my list are the absolutely cheapest vegetables and fruits. You aren't going to find any that give you more servings per pound.

Be sure you have some tomatoes, onions, carrots, and cabbage every day. Fill in the spaces with potatoes and green beans and more tomatoes.

Use eggs, peanut butter, and beans to boost protein. Cheese is a bit on the expensive side, but you may find that using more beans allows you to use more cheese, since it will average out.

Eat beans, rice, and corn in combinations so that you get the protein boost from matching up proteins.

Transform some of these meat recipes into vegetarian ones. For example, the African Peanut Chicken would probably taste pretty good over garbanzos.

I use the Pork Sate recipe over lentils frequently.

You get the idea.

I'm going to leave my email address up for a bit so you can email me. I've got documents online that I can share with you that will help you do the calculations.

Simply Frugal 2000 (all one word, no caps) at the standard Google email.
